Birds fly south – Love That Languedoc, Nota Bene

Une migrqtion d’étourneau!

A bonus episode.  A little while ago, I was eating lunch with some folks at the winery and this huge starling migration swept in over the vineyard.  The birds were gorgeous, forming amazingly intricate yet simple sheets of black in the sky above us.  Worth going to full screen:

So ya, I ran outside with my Flip and filmed this big bird migration and it was awesome.  I gasp with delight at one part, but otherwise this is no comment news.  Just appreciate the wildlife as it sweeps across the vineyard on its journey south. I got mud all over my fancy shoes just for y’all.

Crazy, right?! Apparently it’s a real nuissance when they go through cities because they will all perch in a group of trees and cover the ground and nearby cars in a very thick layer of starling poop. Probably not the most romantic subject to broach in this blog, but out in the vines we think they’re just gorgeous! :D

I spent 13 years in Texas. I know *all* about starling poop! “Never park your car under a tree.” “But…it’ll be hot when the sun comes up.” “Never park your car under a tree! You can always cool out the car by opening the doors before you get in.”

Thanks for dirtying your shoes to get that footage…crazy. I wish my studies on migration was as visibly fascinating! (humans vs birds…not sure where I’m going with that?)
